Mr Raymond Anakwe

I am a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon, a specialist hand, wrist and elbow surgeon and a serving medical officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps of the British Army. He has served at home and on operations as the Regimental Medical Officer to 1st Battalion The Black Watch and as a surgeon deployed in a field hospital in Europe, North America, the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. My higher surgical training has been in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. During my training I spent 2 years in the Edinburgh Trauma Unit where I have gained broad experience in the management of complex fractures and the assessment and management of patients with multiple injuries.

My subspecialist fellowship training has given me additional experience in the full range of trauma, elective, reconstructive and arthroplasty surgery of the hand, wrist and elbow. I completed a fellowship post as an upper limb fellow at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and a second fellowship post at Wrightington Hospital as well as visiting fellowships to specialist centres in North America and South Africa.

I offer the full range of trauma and elective surgery options for hand, wrist and elbow problems as well as common general orthopaedic problems. I work closely with colleagues specialising in radiological investigation and treatment, therapy, electrophysiology and nerve studies, pain management and rehabilitation to achieve the best outcomes and a speedy return to function for you.

My other professional interests include education and training, I am the Director of Medical Education for surgery and also have an interest in audit, safety and effectiveness. My specialist areas of practice include
