Mr Ian Sinha provides a range of surgical options for hip fractures. The location and pattern of the fracture, together with other factors including age, medical conditions and any associated injuries, helps plan the ideal surgical option. These include internal fixation with cannulated screws, dynamic hip screws, intramedullary nails or joint replacement- either total hip arthroplasty or hemiarthroplasty (just the femoral head is replaced). In a small number of cases surgery is not safe and non-operative treatment may be recommended.
